Choosing U-Haul for Truck Rental

October 29, 2015

Maxwell Mini Storage is a U-Haul Truck Rental Agency in Montgomery, Alabama. We’re conveniently located next to Maxwell AFB.

Rent vs Own

U-Haul Truck Rental is a service that many local, small businesses and individuals make use of on a daily basis.

If you or your company are not in need of a Moving Truck on a full-time basis, then it makes sense to rent one. If you lease a U-Haul Moving Truck, you won’t be responsible for any maintenance costs and you won’t have to lay out any capital for financing.

U-Haul Truck Rental

When leasing a U-Haul Truck there are many points that you need to consider, including:

  1. Type of U-Haul Truck to lease
  2. Size of the Moving Truck needed to transport your cargo
  3. Are you comfortable driving a larger U-Haul Moving Truck?
  4. How far will the Rental Truck be driven?
  5. Do you need insurance?

When contacting a U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer, these are some of the first questions they are going to ask.

Type Of U-Haul Truck Rental

The type of Truck Rental will depend on what you are transporting.

There are many types on U-Haul Trucks to choose from, including:

  • U-Haul Moving (Box) Trucks
  • U-Haul Cargo Vans
  • U-Haul Pickup Trucks

Each U-Haul Truck configuration has its own unique, recommended use.

For example, furniture is commonly transported in Moving (Box) Trucks, while packaged goods can be transported in a Cargo Van. For bulky or messy loads a U-Haul Pickup is ideal.

U-Haul Moving Truck Size

There are also various sized U-Haul Moving Trucks available for lease.

These range in size from our 10ft Box Truck for small apartment moves to our 26ft Moving Truck for 4-5 bedroom homes. The size U-Haul Moving Truck you choose will be determined by how big of a load you have. It’s a good idea to know the capacity (cubic feet) for each Rental Truck before making a reservation.

Driving a U-Haul Truck

For most U-Haul Truck Rentals, you are generally able to drive one as you do most vehicles.

Of course, there are additional considerations like vertical clearance, braking distance and backing that require more of your attention. If you have a regular drivers license, you are qualified to lease a U-Haul Moving Truck.

Distance

Most authorized U-Haul Dealers charge rates that are based on the distance that you travel.

It is usually best to lease a truck that will accommodate your load in one trip to save on excess distances.

Insurance

U-Haul Neighborhood Dealers offer additional insurance with your rental.

If you wish to insure the truck under your own policy, this is also allowed when you have proper coverage.

Carefully read your U-Haul Truck lease agreement so that you understand the fees. It’s always in your best interest to know upfront what your charges will be.
